PHILOSOPHY OF THE RICHARD J. DALEY COLLEGE LIBRARY (LRC)

The philosophy of the Daley College Library (Learning Resource Center) is to break through the conventional framework of library and audio-visual services by offering a totally integrated and unified multimedia approach to the learning sources. As such, the total college community will have an unlimited approach to the knowledge and information to enhance and stimulate the process of learning and teaching.

MISSION STATEMENT-DALEY COLLEGE LIBRARY (LRC)

The City Colleges of Chicago, a system of seven community colleges, as its mission, provides learning opportunities for Chicago's diverse populations to enhance their knowledge and skills through quality, comprehensive, and affordable, educational programs and services. As one of the City Colleges of Chicago, Richard J. Daley College shares in the vision and mission of the District. In addressing the diverse community of the southwest side of Chicago, Daley College provides opportunities for higher education, professional growth, and cultural enrichment. Daley College is committed to high quality affordable programs, which are responsive to the educational, career, and service needs of the community.

The Daley College Library's mission is to provide services and resources that support and reflect the general mission of both Daley College and the district. The library's collection is developed to promote the educational, cultural, and vocational needs of the student body, the staff and the faculty as well as the community as a whole. The Daley College Library serves a diverse community of users and celebrates this diversity. Our diverse library users, interpreted here, as those engaged in a lifelong pursuit of learning are provided resources and services to aid them in their quest. We strive to treat our users with courtesy and respect, to provide access to timely and relevant sources of information, and to provide knowledgeable reference assistance and user instruction in a quiet environment.

GOALS OF THE DALEY COLLEGE LIBRARY (LRC)

The goals and objective of the Learning Resource are as follows:

  1. To support and supplement the educational needs of the students,the staff, and the community.
  2. To assist in every facet of the learning process.
  3. To maintain and develop a viable materials collection.
  4. To provide efficient dissemination of information.
  5. To encourage educational, recreational, and personal enrichment.
  6. To serve as the instructional hub of the college.
