DISTRICT POLICIES AND GUIDELINES GOVERNING THE USE OF COMPUTING AND TECHNOLOGY
RESOURCES AT THE CITY COLLEGES OF CHICAGO

The District's computer and technology resources are provided for educational
and administrative purposes and are to be used in a manner that is consistent
with those purposes. Unauthorized use of District resources for commercial
purposes, personal gain or for any other purpose inconsistent with the
mission of the District are prohibited.

Be sensitive to the needs of others, use only your fair share of
computing resources. Use of District resources for non-educational purposes
including, but not limited to, game playing, chain letters, or other mass
mailings or activities that could damage, unduly burden, or disrupt the
normal operations of the District systems is prohibited.

Refrain from displaying material on screens in shared Facilities
or forwarding material to others that may cause discomfort or embarrassment.
Technological resources are not to be used to retrieve or send pornographic,
obscene, harassing or illegal materials or messages.

Be civil when communicating with others - write as if you expect
the whole world to read every message. There is no guarantee of privacy
in the use of computer and technology resources. Further, there may be
occasions when it will be necessary for District administration to access
computer or telephone accounts in order to prevent disruption to the network
or other shared services to enforce laws or District policy.

Identify yourself clearly and accurately in electronic communications.
Individuals or campus organizations that obtain access to a telephone,
computer or e-mail may only use their own passwords, are responsible for
protecting those passwords from use by others, and for reporting any unauthorized
use of the system as well as any breech of system security that they are
aware of.

Users are expected to use computing resources in ways that are ethical
and honest. It is unethical to represent someone else's work as your own,
or to allow someone to represent your work as theirs. Plagiarism and cheating
will not be tolerated. Additionally, altering the electronic communication
of others may be a form of fraud, which is prohibited.

It is the intention of the District to honor all software licenses
it holds as well as all other contractual and legal obligations regarding
the use of software and other computer related products. CCC forbids, under
any circumstances, the unauthorized reproduction of software or use of
illegally obtained software. Using CCC equipment to make illegal copies
of software is prohibited.

No user shall attempt to open files or documents to gain access to
areas or systems for which they have not been granted authorization.

CCC employees and students who violate this policy are subject to appropriate
disciplinary action including suspension of their computer privileges.
Serious violations of this policy may result in expulsion of discharge.
Individuals, who violate state or federal privacy agreements also may be
subject to criminal or civil action by appropriate authorities or by the
owner of the copyright.
