City College Rules state that no child shall be left unattended in any area of the college. THIS INCLUDES THE LIBRARY. If anyone leaves their child (or children) in the library, Security will be called in to remove them. For their own safety the children will be kept in the Security Office until the parent returns. Anyone who leaves their child (or children) more than ONCE will be referred to the Dean of Student Services for appropriate action.
To check out materials from the library, you must be a currently enrolled Daley College student in one of the following programs: Regular College Credit, College Prep, Continuing Education, G.E.D., Adult Learning Skills Program, English as a Second Language, or Upward Bound. Daley College faculty and staff also have borrowing privileges. TV College and Study Unlimited students who are registered at other City Colleges may use the library. Their borrowing privileges here are outlined below. They may also request that a book from our library be sent to their home campus library via inter-library loan.
A currently valid Daley College photo I.D. is necessary to borrow books using Daley's new automated circulation system. If you do not have a valid photo I.D. for the current semester you must get one. See the Security Office (Room 1409) to get I.D. validated or to secure a new I.D. A DATE DUE card will be placed in each book borrowed. If a book is returned after thedue date it is overdue and subject to fines. Students with overdue items will not be able to borrow new items until the overdues are returned and their fines are paid.
If a student from Westside Tech, or from one of the CCC campuses, comes to Daley College Library to borrow an item from our general collection, he or she needs to fulfill all the following requirements:
These students are limited to borrowing one item, per borrowing period. The length of the borrowing period mirrors the length of the borrowing period of Daley Students, by type. For itra-library loans shipped via CCC mail, an additional week is added to the borrowing period. No renewal allowed except one renewal for students from Westside Tech. All intra-library items are eligible to be recalled. All CCC borrowers are subject to fines imposed by Daley College Library.
The Loan Period is:
The amount charged per day in fines is $.25. The maximum amount offines per general collection book is $20.00. Weekends and holidays are included in the calculation of all fines. Fines are payable at the circulation desk at the time of return.
A non-refundable processing fee of $20.00 will be charged for each lost book. This is in addition to all of the applicable overdue fine charges and to the $45.00 cost for each lost book.
At the end of EACH semester, any student having overdue books and/or unpaid fines will be reported to the Business Office. These students will be placed on HOLD and will be UNABLE to receive their grades, transcripts, or register for the coming semester until this account is settled with the library.
Books borrowed by Daley College students may be renewed twice. West side Tech students may renew once. Other CCC students do not have renewal priveleges. Telephone renewals will not be accepted under any circumstances. If you have overdue books or outstanding fines, or if another patron has requested your book, you will not be allowed to renew your books. You MUST have your books with you in order to renew them. A member of the library staff will re-sign out the books, and will be given a new due date.
If a book that you need is not on the shelves, you may ask the Circulation Desk Staff to check its loan status. If another patron currently has the book, you may reserve it by filling out a reserve card with your name and a phone number. Upon return of the book, the Desk Staff will call you. The book will be held at the Circulation Desk under your name for the next three days. After three days, you forfeit your right to this reserved book, and it will be returned to the shelves.
When requesting a "Library Use Only" reserve or any periodicals, you will need to present your currently validated Daley College I.D., which will be held until the materials are returned. There is a two- hour limit on this loan and the borrowed items MUST remain in the library. For a reserve book, you will be asked to PRINT your name on the bookcard. There is a borrowing limit of two reserve books at a time. When requesting periodicals, a slip must be filled out indicating the specific magazines and dates needed. There is a borrowing limit of four periodicals at a time.
All rules should be followed while using these rules. Anyone found eating, drinking, or smoking in these rooms will lose their study room privileges immediately. All rooms have a two hour maximum time usage. If the reserved room is not occupied within 15 minutes from the designated reserved start time, the room can be reassigned. Study Rooms are available on a first come-first serve sign-in basis. We do ask that you have at least two students in your group and that you limit your time to two hours.
Preview Rooms are located in the back of the library. Check with Audio-Visual Center staff for their availability.
The Conference Room must be signed up for in advance. Reservations can be made at the Circulation Desk. Preference will be given in the following order:
Occasionally you may be asked by the librarian on duty to "give up" your scheduled Conference Room time to accommodate an incoming Orientation Group. Efforts will be made to relocate you to another study area.
The Daley College Library provides a number of terminals with Internet access. The following rules are to be observed by all students. Students whose behavior is inappropriate will be asked to leave the library. Library computers are for use only by Daley College and other City College students. Be prepared to show your current validated student I.D. to library staff upon request. Students must sign in on the log sheets prior to use. The time allotted for usage is ½ hour per session. A librarian may, at any time, ask you to vacate a station if they need to use it. A printer is available for the Internet terminals. It is located at the circulation desk. Any materials that you print will go there. Inform the circulation desk staff when you have printed. They will retrieve your documents for you. Please note: There is a charge of $.10 a page for any materials that are printed. Before printing any documents it is advisable to use "print preview" feature.
