THE ELECTRONIC CATALOG OR OPAC
You can search for books and other holdings electronically on the Daley Library OPAC (Online
Public Access Catalog). Before you begin to search for books you should
know that the OPAC is searchable by Author, Title, Subject or keyword.
Subject searches will look for recognized Library of Congress (LC)
subject headings. These subject headings utilize a particular controlled
vocabulary. If you are unsure of the correct subject heading you can refer
to the four volume Library of Congress Subject Headings for guidance,
or you can use an additional search option that is available electronically.
This option is Keyword search. A keyword search will search for
a term in all indexed fields in the record. It does not lock your search
into a controlled vocabulary. For example, if you were looking for library
books on the "SAT" test and searched for a subject you would get 0 results.
If you searched for "SAT" as a keyword you would find several results.
A dropdown menu is available to refine your searches. It will limit searches
by date, by language, or by material type. A link will wake you to the
catalog's doorway. To get in you must click on "Guest" button. You will
then be able to search for holdings in the Daley College Library and the
other City Colleges as well.
Not all library holdings appear in the catalog. To find periodicals you must use and index.
Print indexes can be found on the index table located behind the refernce desk. Online indexes and databases
are also available for use.
When on campus, search the Daley OPAC and locate
