The Library Catalog is used to locate certain resources that are held in the library. The catalog exists in two formats: physical and electronic, the on-line public access catalog (an OPAC). The catalog will list: books, videos, films, filmstrips, slides, tapes, and recordings. It will NOT list: pamphlets, chapters or other parts of books, individual short stories contained in books, individual poems contained in books, periodicals and articles in periodicals. The catalog is searchable by: Author, Title and Subject.
If you know the author's name you should check the AUTHOR-TITLE CARD CATALOG to find out if it is a library holding. If you know the title of a book you should check the AUTHOR-TITLE CARD CATALOG to find out if it is a library holding. If you want to find items about a particular topic that the library holds use the SUBJECT CARD CATALOG.
Holdings in the Daley College library are catalogued and classified according to the Library of Congress (LC) system of classification.
In order to find items on a particular topic, you may need to check synonyms or related terms to findcatalogued items. What you may be thinking of, may not be the term that
is used in LC classification as a subject heading. It may even be necessary to check the four volume guides: Library of Congress Subject Headings for assistance.
One set is located on a shelf next to the subject catalog. A second set can be found in the reference shelves with the call number:
