Nursing Program


Admission to the Nursing Program requires admission to the college, approval by the Nursing Admissions Committee and completion of the following:

Pre-requisite Requirements
- Eligibility for English 101
- Eligibility for Biology 226
- Documented reading score equivalency of 12.0
- Chemistry 100/121 grade B or higher; or higher level chemistry with grade C or better*
- Math 112 grade B or higher; or higher level math with grade C or better*
- All prerequisites and biological science courses must be completed within five (5) years of admission to the nursing program.
- Students must earn a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher for consideration by the Admissions. Committee. Submit an application after successful completion of all prerequisites.

*May satisfy Math & Chemistry pre-requisiteswith high school course grade of B or better, all prerequisites must be completed within 5 years of admission to nurisng program

An L.P.N. (Licensed Practical Nurse) may seek advanced placement. A student may CLEP Nursing 101 and proceed to Nursing 102. Or student may
successfully complete Nursing 140 and proceed to second year of the nursing program. For more information contact the Nursing office.

This nursing program leads to an Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.). The nursing theory and clinical courses span a two year period.

Other Requirements :
Meet health requirements upon admission to the program. Subject to a criminal background review and/or a random drug screening.
Successful completion of the degree requirements and passing the City Colleges of Chicago Nursing Comprehensive Exit Examination is a requirement for graduation and an A.A.S. degree in Nursing.
Graduation from the nursing program does not guarantee R.N. licensure. The graduate must apply for R.N. licensure and and successfully pass the National Council for Licensing Exam (NCLEX-RN).

APPROXIMATE COST of the nursing program.
Tuition Chicago residents $62.00 per credit hour (effective Summer 2004) there are additional fees for lab, technology and other registration fees.

FIRST YEAR

- Physical Exam (requirement for clinical)

- Medical Insurance* (requirement for clinical)

SECOND YEAR
- Books $400.00

*Medical Insurance is available for a fee through a student insurance plan.

The first year consists of:
Nursing 101 - Fall Semester
Nursing 102 - Spring Semester
First year courses meet for two lecture days and one 6 hour clinical day per week.

The second year consists of:
Nursing 210 and 211 - Fall Semester
Nursing 212, 213, 203* - Spring Semester
Second year courses meet for two lecture days and two 6 hour clinical days per week.
(*203 consists of classroom only.)
