Welcome to Harold Washington College's ESL (English as a Second Language) and Foreign Language Department.

Who studies at Harold Washington College?

Our students come from all parts of the globe, with almost 70 countries represented.

Students include professionals, such as doctors, accountants, professors, journalists, engineers, international business people and renowned artists.

What do they study at Harold Washington College?

Although many of our international students start with ESL classes, they also study in a variety of academic fields such as chemistry, business, computer science, hospitality, and art.

Some are working to advance their careers; others are students planning for future undergraduate study and/or the TOEFL test; many are new immigrants trying to adapt to and succeed in American society.

They choose to study at HWC because of the exciting, multi-media teaching techniques, the highly qualified educators, the many support services, and the extracurricular activities designed to help students feel at home in a new country.

Where is Harold Washington College?

One of the reasons for choosing Harold Washington College is that it is located in the middle of beautiful downtown Chicago, where it has convenient transportation at our doorstep and all the cultural benefits of one of the world's leading cities.
