Advisors

Definitely People You Should Know

Advisors will help students in a variety of ways.  They are the people who will:
Help keep you on track so that you take courses in proper sequence for your major;

Help make sure you take the required courses for your major;

Help you change majors with the least loss of credit;

Evaluate your transcripts (particularly important for transfer students, military personnel and veterans, students applying for readmission, and international students);

Conduct orientation sessions and tours of the building to assist new students in familiarizing themselves with Harold Washington College

Assist students when they are ready to transfer to four-year colleges;

Provide specialized advising for students in the Chicago police and fire training academies and the University of Chicago Hospital Academy;

Manage a Male Mentoring Program, the purpose of which is to support and nurture “male wellness” and to help ameliorate the educational, social, and physical/mental health factors that impede the success of male students.

Generally, students will work with an assigned advisor.  However, all advisors are available to assist students if the assigned advisor is not available.

Working closely with an advisor will greatly facilitate a positive experience for the students of Harold Washington College.  Students shouldn’t be shy; they should get to know the people in this office.  They are there to help.

To meet with an advisor, go to Room 101 or call 312/553-5879.
