Introduction to the scientific method, astronomy, geology, and meteorology.
Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.


Physical Science 101 is a non-lab course.
3 lecture hours per week. 3 credit hours.

    The mission of this course is to provide the general education student with a background in the areas of geology, meteorology, and astronomy.

    Specifically, the objectives are:

    1) the student develops critical thinking skills so that the student will be able to discuss and evaluate science ideas from the disciplines of geology, meteorology, and astronomy.

    2) the student is enabled to use the insights gained by exposure to scientific principles so that she or he can make informed decisions on scientific matters that have an impact in their daily lives and on larger world issues.

    3) the student is equipped with knowledge of the scientific method by performing laboratory activities, interpreting data, and communicating results in writing.

    4) the student develops a realization that knowledge he or she has acquired has meaningful value via independent student visits to world class museums and independent student research on course topics using the Internet including communicating this realization in writing.
