Students at Olive-Harvey College take courses in
the English and Speech Department for many reasons. Some want to
be more persuasive speakers, others want to more effective
readers, many wish to complete freshman speech, writing , and
literature requirements in one of our rigorous yet supportive
classes. Whatever your reasons, the English and Speech Department
faculty look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
Our courses prepare students who wish to transfer
to a four-year college or university baccalaureate degree
program. They also prepare students for any career in which good
communication skills are fundamental to success. Students who
concentrate in English or Speech may be particularly interested
in pursuing a career in journalism, law, teaching, public
relations, or media communications. English and Speech courses
offer all students the opportunity to develop their critical
thinking skills while improving their ability to read, to
analyze, to discuss and to write.
