MathZone Information
Fall 2009
- The deadline for MathZone extra credit
is Monday, December 7 (the Monday before your final exam).
- MathZone is online software
provided by your textbook publisher.
You can complete MathZone assignments for extra credit. These problems are not a substitute
for your regularly assigned reading and problems.
- MathZone extra credit will
increase your score on the quiz for that material:
- Completing all the MathZone problems for
the sections tested on a quiz increases your quiz score by the following
number of points (out of 100):
- 10 points, if problems
are completed before the quiz
- 5 points, if problems
are completed after the quiz
- 20 points, if you miss
the quiz and score a zero
- MathZone extra credit will
never raise a score above 100.
- MathZone allows you to check your answers and to
repeat answering a question (or a similar question) until you get it
right. If all questions are
not correct, you will only get partial credit, rounded down.
- To receive credit, e-mail me once you have
completed extra credit for a given quiz.
- MathZone must be accessed
through the internet, and you can begin either at the MathZone home for our textbook or http://mathzone.com/.
- You are also encouraged to explore other
materials available to you through MathZone, though not assigned: extra practice problems, video
lectures, explanations, chapter review exercises, etc.
- To register for MathZone you
need a Registration Code and a Student Section Code
- When you bought your textbook, it should have
come with a Registration Code. If
not (e.g. a used book), you can buy one online for $50 using a credit
card. Follow the link below for
instructions.
- Your Student Section Code is 99F-FC-984
- Codes are case
sensitive: do not use
lowercase!
- Here is how you should register
for MathZone:
- Please use your CCC e-mail address when
registering for MathZone.
- If you already are registered in a section of
MathZone using this textbook (e.g. if you took Math 98 last semester
and used MathZone), then log into that course. At the upper right corner of the screen will be an
option: "Change Course or
Section." Click on that, and
you should see where to enter your Student Section Code for this
semester.
- If you used MathZone with a different book,
follow the above directions but after clicking "Change Course or
Section," look for "Go To Other Book..."
- If you have never registered for MathZone, click
on this link: MathZone Student QuickStart Guide. (This is a PDF file.)
- Tips on successfully using
MathZone:
- You need to use a computer with various standard
applications installed (Flash, Java, Quicktime, etc.) If these are not installed, you may
not be able to complete all problems.
You may download all these programs for free. See "Technical Help" below,
if necessary.
- See me in my office hours if you have any
