Withdrawal Policies
Fall 2009
Student
Initiated Withdrawal:
A student may withdraw from a class (WTH) by going to the Registrar's office. In the Fall 2009 semester, students may withdraw only until Monday, November 16. There are no refunds except at the beginning of the semester. See the Registrar's office for details.
No-Show
Withdrawal:
A no-show withdrawal
removes students from the class. It is
given to students who miss their first two classes, unless prior arrangements
are made with the instructor. Students
who have been withdrawn and wish to be reinstated must see their instructor,
who will decide on an individual basis whether to reinstate.
Administrative
Withdrawal:
An administrative
withdrawal (ADW) removes students from the class. It is issued with midterm grades and is given to students who are
not "actively pursuing course objectives," which is measured by
criteria set by individual instructors.
(See below.) Those who have
received an ADW and wish to be reinstated must see their instructor, who will
decide on an individual basis whether to reinstate. Students may not withdraw after reinstatement following an
administrative withdrawal.
Professor Maltenfort
has set the following policy:
A student is not
actively pursuing course objectives (and will be issued an Administrative
Withdrawal) if at least two of the following three criteria are met:

may be some inaccuracies below. For
more information, please go to the Registrar's office in Room 1220 or
consult the Student Policy Manual of the City Colleges of Chicago. Information about withdrawals can be found
in Part V: "Grade
Designations and Policies" and Part III: "Tuition, Fees, Waivers and Refunds." However, note that the information there on
Administrative Withdrawals is out of date.
