How to FTP Files Be sure to create a "home" page for your directory. Otherwise visitors to your directory will not be able to view your site. The home page can be called index.html, index.htm, default.htm, default.html. Once you have created your web pages, you will need to transfer your files (also called FTP) to the webserver, using an FTP program. There are some freeware or trial version FTP programs available on the Internet. Such sites as ZDNet and CNET allow you to search for FTP programs. One such product is WS_FTP and is generally free for use in academic enviornments. Step 1: Download the FTP software program Click here to Download WS_FTP Step 2: Install the FTP sofware program Step 3: Configure the FTP software program Once you have installed the FTP software on your computer, you will use the username and password assigned to you to configure the software. You will also need to indicate the server you are uploading to, which is: faculty.ccc.edu For Example:
If you use a different FTP program other than WS_FTP your FTP program may have a different appearance than the images here, but you should be able to get the general idea from this tutorial. Step 4: Upload files to the Faculty Web Server
The left window is a view of the files on your computer. The right window is a view of the files in your directory on the Faculty Web Server. To transfer a file to the Faculty Web Server, highlight the file on your computer by clicking on it once. Then click the right transfer arrow located between the right and left windows. The FTP program will then transfer the file from your computer to your directory on the Faculty Web Server. To transfer a file from your directory on the Faculty Web Server to your computer, highlight the file in your directory by clicking on it once. Then click the left transfer arrow located between the right and left windows. The FTP program will then transfer the file from your directory on the Faculty Web Server to your computer. Once you have downloaded/uploaded all the files you need, click the Exit button at the botton of the screen to close your FTP program.
